FMP rehearsal journal week 8

This final studio time was probably the biggest push in terms of what we got done. We got the guitar tracks down for both songs, all that was left was to record the drums.
Dave showed us a technique to mic the drums up for the sound we wanted, a live sound, and this was achieved through a technique called the 'Glynn Jones' setup, pictured in the diagram on the right and the finished set-up on the kit we used below that.

Mic 1 - Kick
Mic 2 - Snare
Mic 3 - Overhead
Mic 4 - Room mic

The room mic essentially creates the live sound we want, instead of picking up the whole kit, picks up more of the sound of the room (that the drums are in) By doing this, we created an incredible drum sound for both our tracks, as this technique is versatile for a variety of genres.

Also, below is a picture of the mixing of the drums and guitar, the only remaining tasks are to record guitar solos, bass and lyrics for both tracks, and our ep will be complete.

Final Evaluation

we started off to try and write a 3 track EP, influenced by cake, death and a mixture of both. As the project comes to a close, we have ended up with only two tracks, due to people missing from sessions, i think this could've played a part in us falling a track short, however it . has allowed us to focus in more detail on two better tracks.
